Institute for Civic and Community Engagement (ICCE)
The Institute for Civic and Community Engagement (ICCE) provides opportunities for civic engagement and leadership development at San Francisco State University for students, faculty, and community members. Community Service Learning (CSL) is a teaching method that allows students to develop knowledge and improve their academic skills by doing hands-on activities that address local community needs. Both community service learning and civic engagement involve active participation that is focused on the common good.
How to Get Involved?
ICCE offers placement opportunities with community-based organizations, internships with civic organizations and scholarships that recognize exemplary service. They also promote the recognition of service learning activities on academic transcripts.

The Community Connections Database (CCDB) is an online resource where SF State students may search listings of current service learning and volunteer placement opportunities. All placement opportunities are provided by non-profit or public agencies and are approved by ICCE.

Check out the community service and Greek organizations online at Student Organization Directory. You should contact the organization directly to learn how to join. If you have trouble contacting the organization’s student leaders, let Student Activities & Events know at activities@sfsu.edu, and they will assist in connecting you.
