Hello SF State Gators,
My name is Trey Williams, and I am humbled to have the good fortune to serve as your Interim AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students for the remainder of 2021. I will be here to help you identify a permanent AVP for Student Life & Dean of Students, a permanent Vice President of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, and to walk with you through the Fall semester of transition as we see the light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel. I’m excited to be here, and I'm looking forward to our work together.
I’ve spent over 40 years working in higher education. In fact, I think my career started when I was called to the Dean of Students Office, and not for any sort of recognition, I might add. I’m a cyclist and a family man. My phone background is of my pup, Elliot, and in my free time, you’ll find me listening to jazz, going to the theater or sporting events (pre-pandemic, of course). I don’t know if I like ice cream or pie more, but what I do know is that I’m here for you – the SF State Gators – and cannot wait to get to know you.
I have enjoyed a wonderfully rewarding career in higher education. You – students – are the center of my work; you always have been. Students ask hard questions. Students are always listening. Students inspire me to ask hard questions and listen, too. At SF State, I am here in service to you. While I am here, I will do all that I can to help you in your journey through this incredible experience, and I’ll be here to celebrate with you when we can transition to more in-person classes, more in-person lunches, and more in-person events.
The fact of the matter is, I’m not all that excited to be stuck behind a box on your computer screen right now. Nonetheless, that only means I’ll work harder to connect with you and get to know you; and I’ll do all that I can to make that easy for both of us.
Please, invite me to your student organization meetings, or a virtual lunch together. I can’t wait to see you at virtual celebrations at the end of the semester. I invite you to email me at email@example.com whenever you’d like. I want to hear about your successes, your struggles, your perspectives, and how I can support you while I’m here.
Looking forward to our time together…
Stay safe and be well,
Trey Williams M.Ed (he/him/his)
